Spotlight on Speaking

A note to my Fellow SCNers from Katherine Eitel, SOS Director for SCN:

You say you're going to do it every year… well, NOW's the time! Get serious about moving your speaking career forward and throw your hat in the ring for the 2012 Spotlight on Speaking (SOS) Event in Charleston, SC, June 8-10! If you've ever even remotely thought about participating in SOS before… this is THE YEAR!

We are taking SOS to the next level! I'm proud to be your host for the 2012 SOS Annual Competition and Speaker's Career Advancement Program. We've made some changes to the program and, if you're serious about starting or accelerating your speaking career, you'll definitely want to get on board.

There are now two ways to advance your speaking career at SCN:

  1. Spotlight On Speaking (SOS) Annual Competition: We will randomly select (lottery-style) 6 speakers from all SOS applications received on or before March 15, 2012 to compete on Saturday, June 9th with a 10 minute presentation for 1st and 2nd place awards. Winners will receive a newly-designed SOS winner logo to use in their materials, a trophy, and recognition at Saturday night awards banquet. All participants will receive written feedback from entire SCN audience (love taps) and instant, live feedback on their platform skills from judges.
  2. I Want To Be Booked By You!: Meeting Planner Feedback Forum: Imagine you are making a phone call to a meeting planner and when they say, "Hello" … you have 60 seconds or less to get them interested in you. We'll take 10 volunteers on Sunday, June 10th to step out, take a risk, and give their very best 60-second pitch to get 4 meeting planner panelists interested in hiring them for an upcoming meeting. Here's what will happen:
    • At the end of each pitch, there will be 2 minutes for panel Q & A
    • Panel will make a few comments about your pitch and then say: "Send me your information." OR "No thank you."
    Everyone in the audience will learn what meeting planners are looking for, interested in, what's hot (and what's not!), and what will get you through the door and on the platform. Submit your application no later than March 15, 2012.
Judges and panelists will include, Janice Hurley (international image speaker), Greg George (Buffalo Dental Meeting), Ross and Debra Nash (Nash Institute), Al Klezinski (Chicago Dental Society), Sandy Blum (Texas Dental Meeting)… among others! So, come on! Stand up and speak up! Throw your hat in the ring and advance your speaking career exponentially. The good news: Winner or not, you WIN BIG just by participating.
